Ian began his career in costs and franchise auditing when he was appointed as a Lead Auditor in relation to the Legal Aid Board’s pursuit of BS5750 / ISO 9000 Accreditation.

In 1994, Ian specialised as a Law Costs Draftsman and the following year set up his own business dealing with Solicitors’ costs.  Ian’s workload ranges from personal injury work, clinical negligence, large corporate claims, publicly funded private law family and public law child care work and many other types of work, including Court of Protection, Forced Marriage Protection cases, employment and breach of contract cases.  Ian drafts all types of Bills of Costs, including the new Electronic Bills, prepares Points of Dispute, Replies to Points of Dispute, Costs Budgets, Budget Discussion Reports, statements, skeleton arguments and other costs related pleadings, conducts costs negotiations and attends Detailed Assessment Hearings and Case Management Conferences on behalf of both paying and receiving parties.

Ian is a longstanding member of the Association of Costs Lawyers (previously the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen).  He became an Associate of the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen in January 2001, a Fellow of the Association in January 2003 and, in April 2009, he qualified as a Costs Lawyer.

Ian is committed to a programme of continuous professional development, attending Costs Conferences and avidly reading and keeping abreast of case law and developments across the legal costs landscape.
